Maple Leafs fail and miss out on exciting goaltending rookie Askarov

Askarov requested a trade just a few short days ago and the Predators have granted that request; sending him to San Jose.

The cost given up wasn't as heft as one would think, signaling that both Askarov and the Preds were willing to mutually part. San Jose sends Edstrom, a former Vegas Golden Knights pick to Nashville as well as goaltending prospect Magnus Chrona; who was drafted in 2018. Toronto could have given up Vyacheslav Peksa, a prospect like Ryan Tverberg and a late pick in order to acquire the services of Askarov, who is still only 22 years of age.

It could just be the Maple Leafs are already set in their goaltending tandem, especially with so many waiting in the wings; but missing out on a prospect this good for a low cost, Leafs fans hope this isn't another case of letting one slip away.
