The reporter who leaked the Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau passings has officially been fired.

In the world of journalism, having the first scoop and reporting it is important but in doing so you run an incredible risk of either getting the information muddied or just flat out incorrect about the whole story. For one amateur reporter, it cost them their job and earned a large amount of backlash.
Dylan Robillard who at the time was working for Flyers Nitty Gritty; a credentialed media outlet that covers the Philadelphia Flyers, Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Reading Royals and Delaware Thunder posted late Thursday that Gaudreau and his brother had passed away, but after realizing the criticism he was receiving, deleted the post on X.
Unfortunately, Robillard would end up being correct however it doesn't excuse the blatant sensationalism and it cost him his job:
With how serious the situation was, having all the correct information and letting the proper outlets and channels announce these things is the best way to go about these types of scenarios. Instead of trying to be the first, try and focus on being the best.
