On Thursday night, brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were cycling in Oldsman Township in New Jersey when they were fatally struck by a driver under the influence. The brothers were crossing the street when the motorist decided to pass around the idling vehicles letting them cross and that's when the accident occurred.
As memorials and tributes pour in from fellow players, family, friends, professional sports teams and politicians; the effect that both men had on the community is overwhelming. Among the tributes at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, and the Nationwide Arena in Columbus; another has been set up along the road where the brothers were killed.
As you can see there's a multitude of flowers, signs, a hockey stick, and of course Gatorade; a favourite of Gaudreau's. It shows that during tragic times we can come together, regardless of if you're a fan or a rival.
