It was reported earlier today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have promoted former Maple Leafs Jason Spezza to General Manager of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Spezza has been working alongside former Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas as a special assistant to the General Manager since 2022-23. After Dubas' abrupt departure from the Maple Leafs, Spezza followed him to Pittsburgh where he has learned how to be in management.
He had been a player for the Maple Leafs for three seasons and was an immediate fan favorite along with players in the dressing room. It's been reported that he will continue to be the assistant general manager of the Penguins while fulfilling this new role, but it will give him a chance to understand how to run a team at the AHL level.
This move is likely to push Spezza to becoming a general manager at one point in his career as he is only 41 years old.
He played 19 seasons in the NHL, scoring 363 goals, 632 assists for 995 points.
