With the 2024 NHL Entry Draft just around the corner, the Toronto Maple Leafs are gearing up to make another impactful selection at the 23rd overall pick.

Fresh off a successful pick at 28th last year, the team's management is poised to enhance a promising roster that includes rising stars Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten.
Despite not being in a position to select top-tier prospects like Macklin Celebrini, Cayden Lindstrom, or Tij Iginla, the Leafs have a solid chance to snag considerable talent later in the first round. Candidates such as Jett Luchanko, Henry Mews, and Emil Hemming are on the radar, each bringing unique skills to potentially bolster the Leafs' lineup.
Jett Luchanko, a center from the Guelph Storm, stands out with a respectable track record of 20 goals and 74 points in 68 games last season. His performance at the U18 World Junior Championships, where he notched 7 points in 7 games, underscores his solid playmaking ability. Known for his high hockey IQ and situational awareness, Luchanko might not be the flashiest, but his reliability and smart plays make him a valuable prospect.
On the defensive front, Henry Mews could be an intriguing option for Toronto. The 6'0" right-handed defenseman from the Ottawa 67's has shown his prowess by scoring 15 goals and 61 points over 65 games. His aggressive style and offensive capabilities were also on display internationally, tallying 7 points in both the U18 WJC and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Mews could provide the Leafs with a dynamic, puck-moving defenseman that enhances their right-side play.
Alternatively, the Leafs might consider venturing into Europe with Emil Hemming, a robust 6'2" forward from the Finnish Liiga. Hemming's experience against seasoned professionals is reflected in his performance, with 7 goals and 11 points in 40 games. His prowess was more pronounced in junior levels, where he excelled with 18 points in 13 games for TPS U20.
As draft day approaches, it's clear that the Leafs have multiple avenues to explore. Wes Clark's history of unconventional picks adds an element of unpredictability, but one thing remains certain: the 23rd pick will likely yield a promising addition to Toronto's talent pool. This strategic approach in the draft could very well shape the team's future, ensuring sustained competitiveness and success.
