While the Toronto Maple Leafs may have lost out on some goaltending insurance by losing Keith Petruzzelli to the Philadelphia Flyers, but Toronto could enact some revenge.
With several NCAA draft rights expiring on August 15, one particular name that wasn't signed was University of Minnesota standout Bryce Brodzinski; a 6'0 200 pound winger who the Flyers drafted in the 7th round (196th overall) and enjoyed a respectable 93 points in 118 games for U of Minn.
Kyle Cushman of The Score posted on X regarding how Toronto has already used this tactic before having scooped up some expired prospects in the hopes that they can blossom in the Blue and White.
Brodzinski also has ties to Toronto already, as he played with current Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies while they were in Minnesota and could find himself as a solid depth piece down the line, or should he fast track his development; become a regular in any lineup.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Brad Treliving follow in the footsteps of his predecessor Kyle Dubas, and utilize these expired rights to their advantage.
