With Nick Robertson still unsigned and questions surrounding his desire to play in Toronto, the Maple Leafs could still entice their young RFA with a bit more money if they play the cards right.

We recently reported on whether or not Robertson and the Maple Leafs want to work together and although the relationship is a bit frosty; adding some extra cap space could heat things up.
NHL analyst Kevin Papetti of The Athletic recently posted on X regarding how the Maple Leafs could add some extra space.
If Toronto wanted to dump Kampf in order to keep Robertson they could easily turn to Alexander Nylander and/or one of their rookies out of camp to fill the hole in the bottom-six. Kampf leaving would give the Maple Leafs even less center depth, so the possibility of moving someone like Conor Timmins may be a better alternative.
Robertson would provide the Maple Leafs with another offensive weapon, and although he inexplicably could not find time in Sheldon Keefe's lineup, his style of play and offensive abilities fit perfect into a Craig Berube system. Couple that with a revamped powerplay and Robertson could excel this year.
Money talks, and perhaps the Maple Leafs could bring a bit of heft to the conversation if they truly wanted to ensure Robertson hangs around.
