The Buffalo Sabres have signed three ex-Leaf players and unveiled their jersey numbers for the 2024-25 season.

It may feel like home for a trio of ex-Leaf players as they took their talents to the Buffalo Sabres, only a short trip from the blue and white; as former netminder James Reimer, and forwards Sam Lafferty and Nicolas Aube-Kubel all signed with the Sabres this offseason. On top of the signings, we just found out what they'll be donning during the season.
Thanks to NHL Jersey Numbers on X; Buffalo unveiled the new numbers for the trio; Reimer will wear 47; last worn by Malcolm Subban in 2021-22 and is a number that has stuck with him through the twilight of his career.
He most notably wore #34 for the Leafs as well as the Sharks and Panthers. Drafted in the 4th Round by the Leafs; Reimer enjoyed a solid career with Toronto having played in 207 games and having a save percentage over .900 and amassed over 1000 saves in his first season with Toronto.
Lafferty, who will wear #81 this year, came over as part of the trade that brought defenseman Jake McCabe to Toronto and was mainly a depth piece for the Leafs but commanded too high of a price to warrant keeping; having been shipped off to Vancouver. Most notably, #81 was previously worn by Sabres forward Miroslav Satan.
Aube-Kubel, who did not play much in his tenure with the Leafs having appeared in only 6 games in 2022-23 will don #96 which is a number he has worn throughout his career but becomes only the second Sabres player to wear the number joining Anders Bjork from 2021-22.
It remains to be seen if these players will provide any sort of impact for the Sabres, but it certainly makes the trip down the highway just a little more personal the next time these teams meet.
