One reporter thinks that Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has given off some fairly severe warning signs that things may not be so different in Toronto.

On Maple Leafs Hot Stove, reporter Anthony Petrielli brings forth a few topics of interest that could signal trouble in Toronto, and the Kyle Dubas era still lingers on with a different mask.
First off, there still seems to be a sense of panicking and overpaying people even if their history speaks to the contrary. Ryan Reaves, who signed a 3-year deal is often injury prone and needs braces in order to function. While he does provide a big body on the ice, his lack of offensive and defensive metrics do not play well into a Maple Leafs lineup.
«I have very loose knees. I've torn both knees, like, a ton of times, and I just don't feel comfortable on the ice without them anymore. I've tried taking them off, and my knees are so loose that when I cut, like, to get out of bed the next morning, sometimes they pop out. So, keep 'em on. I wouldn't even practice without them.»
Then in an odd move, the GM signed John Klingberg to a deal over $4M and it was a severe overpayment for a guy who has had a lingering injury he admits he's had his whole career and fights through it. Speaking to reporters in November he stated:
«It's always been there throughout my career, but I've been able to deal with it and work through it. But it kind of hit a rock bottom here these last few weeks.»
Finally, it seems that the Leafs GM has a vision but sometimes it can be blurry from tunnel vision. When he signed Jani Hakanpaa to a 2-year deal this offseason, many were stunned believing the defenseman might not be ready to suit up this year, or potentially the rest of his career.
Hakanpaa's contract situation has been nothing short of a nightmare, with the deal not officially signed and Hakanpaa's camp going silent it seems like a wasted effort in Toronto where money could have been spent elsewhere on a safer option.
It could be simply a panic move in a time where he's still trying to figure out the roster, but when it's been two years of consistent red flags; maybe it would be time to start paying attention.
