The Toronto Maple Leafs have had an interesting few days considering William Nylander's absence from Games 1 and 2 due to an injury.

The update we've all been waiting for has come in, thanks to trusted TSN Hockey insider Chris Johnston.

When William Nylander was not in the lineup for Game 1 or Game 2, it created a lot of confusion in Toronto, which wasn't helped by any comments from head coach Sheldon Keefe or GM Brad Treliving. They kept very quiet on Nylander, in fact.

Finally, after a week of speculation, former NHLer and ex-Toronto Marlie Jordan Schmaltz revealed that Nylander is dealing with what his sources have called an "upper-body ailment."

Before being ruled out for Game 2, Nylander had skated on consecutive days in Boston, but his status ahead of Game 3 always seemed more favorable.

The Leafs winger is expected to return to the lineup tonight, according to Chris Johnston of TSN, who revealed as much on TSN 1050 radio on Wednesday morning.

"I'd be surprised if he didn't [play], just given the fact that we saw him skate a couple of times in Boston and just how hard it is to miss games at this time of the year. I think that it didn't seem to be too great of a concern around him, I would say, internally anyway. So I do think there's a high probability you'll see him on the ice here today."

Nylander has really rocketed up in the popularity standings in Toronto after registering 98 points for the Leafs this season, which also helped him lock up an 8-year extension with the Leafs at $11.5M per season. Big time money for a big time player.

In this series, Nylander has the potential to transform the Leafs into a legitimate threat. With Games 3 and 4 set for tonight and Saturday in Toronto, the Leafs and Bruins are tied at 1-1 and will be looking to take both home games to move up to 3-1 in the series.

The Leafs' odds of beating the Bruins in Round 1 will increase if Nylander is truly back to 100% health.
