Mitch Marner is more than likely going to be seeking different pastures come next offseason and while Leafs fans hope they can extend the 27-year old, those aspirations seem to be fleeting more by the day.

If the Leafs were to pull a trigger on a Marner deal in order to recuperate their losses and without losing him to nothing in free agency; one would expect their return to be nothing short of a king's ransom. NHL analyst Stu Grimson is among those, giving his insight into a potential package.
"This group needs a little more sandpaper. They need more grit where their top-six is concerned. You look at that list of candidates in their top-six and I go back to the Florida series. The trouble that club had with Tkachuk and Bennett. Both players who factor in the top six for the Florida Panthers. I know the Leafs covet that kind of gritty presence as part of your top six, who can also generate top-end offensive numbers.

It'll be a haul. I got to believe there'll be a solid, established impact NHL player as part of the mix and perhaps a mix of picks and prospects... But it should be a rich return without question."
With Tyler Bertuzzi heading for Chicago this offseason, the Leafs lack some true grit on the wings, and an aging Ryan Reaves is certainly not the answer. There has been no indication whether the Leafs will start feeling out offers for Marner (hoping they can convince him to waive his NTC) but it wouldn't hurt them to see what they can get.
