Fletcher, the long-time executive who has been a mainstay in the NHL since 1956 has renewed his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2024-2025 season. This year marks the 24th year Fletcher has been involved in some capacity with the Leafs, most notably when he brought in Doug Gilmour in 1992 followed two years later by trading for franchise legend Mats Sundin.
He started his career as a scout with the Montreal Canadiens before transitioning to Assistant GM for the St. Louis Blues. He also maintained positions with the Atlanta/Calgary Flames (guiding them to their only cup in 1988-89), a quick pit stop in Tampa Bay as well as Phoenix/Arizona before settling back with the Leafs in 2007-2008.
At 89 years old, even though he is unable to make many games in person, he is still able to provide insight and impact from the comfort of his home. As Lance Hornsby states, with a bevy of TV's and computers in front of him Fletcher still peruses all levels of hockey from NHL to NCAA.
