Cushman fields that McGroarty is ready to take the next step in his hockey career and will seek significant ice time with the Pittsburgh Penguins as he was unable to do so with Winnipeg. If he's successful, it will open significant ice time with Michigan which will allow Moldenhauer to move up the lineup and become a more prominent player.
According to eliteprospects.com, Moldenhauer who stands at 5'10, 170 lbs, was selected by the Maple Leafs in the 2022 Entry draft, 3rd Round, 95th overall. The 20-year-old winger who can also play centre, has been mentioned to have great puck handling skills and an impressive shot. Moldenhauer had played 41 games, scoring eight goals with 13 assists for 21 points and was a -2.
McGroarty who is also 20 years old was selected in the 1st Round, 14th overall by The Jets. Last year with the University of Michigan, he played 36 games scored sixteen goals, with 36 assists for 52 points for a +17.
There is uncertainty as to when Moldenhauer will become a player on the Leafs but for the time being, he will continue to develop with Michigan in hopes of being recognized and noticed to find a spot on the roster.
