As you can see here, the two prospects shared the ice with Matthews and Tavares while practicing in Bracebridge before taining camp starts. No doubt both men want a solid look as the prospects before camp opens, and maybe use their inside knowledge and help boost the chances that one or both men make the roster at some point.
Minten and Cowan were drafted in 2022 and 2023 respectively; and both come with a fair share of accolades, especially Cowan, who is coming off a 96 point season which saw him not only capture the OHL Championship, but the Red Tilson Trophy for Most Outstanding Player in the regular season as well as the Gretzky 99 Trophy for playoff MVP.
With Matthews set to be the captain for the foreseeable future, maybe this is a sign that down the line we'll see Matthews having rookies stay at his house much like Tavares and others have done before him.
