It appears that Maple Leafs goalie prospect Timofei Obvinstev has been impressive in four preseason games with the MHL.
Obvinstev has only allowed four regulation goals in four preseason games which has been getting noticed by the Leafs management and scouts overseas.
According to eliteprospects.com, the 19-year-old goaltender who stands at 6'4 and 179 pounds was selected by the Maple Leafs in 2024 (5th Round, 157th Overall)
Currently he remains unsigned by the Maple Leafs and has been playing for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva of the MHL. Last season he played 16 games, had a GAA of 2.96 and a save percentage of .921.
Ever since drafting Joseph Woll who was the first homegrown drafted goaltender of the Maple Leafs since Felix Potvin in the 90s, the Maple Leafs have taken a tone that building your own goaltending crop rather than going out and getting free agents constantly is the better plan.
The organization has goaltending depth that is homegrown including Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov who will both be part of the Toronto Marlies going into this new season. Adding Obvinstev will add more depth to the ranks and it remains to be seen on whether he can get to North America and play for the Maple Leafs organization.
