Could a homecoming be in order for Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri? A new trade pitch from PuckPedia certainly thinks so.
A recent trade idea brought forth on PuckPedia brings former 7th overall pick Nazem Kadri back to the Toronto Maple Leafs and it could clear up a few loose ends should the trade go through.
The trade breaks down as follows:
Toronto receives:
Nazem Kadri (w/ Calgary retaining 3.5M)
2025 5th Round Pick
2026 6th Round Pick

Calgary receives:
David Kampf
Nick Robertson
Ryan Reaves
2025 2nd Round Pick (FLA)
While this may seem like an overpayment, we have to break down the parts involved and see how it turns out for both teams.
First off, the centrepiece of the trade is Nazem Kadri; the former Leafs 7th overall pick has had a very solid career so far and most recently put together a 75 point season for the Flames (29G, 46A) and has been as consistent as any player in the last few years scoring at least 20 goals the last three seasons.
Kadri would slot in perfectly in a Top-9 role in Toronto, alleviating some of the scoring pressure on the top stars, and if he can keep his head clear and stay out of the penalty box (an issue he had previously in Toronto during the playoffs) then he could be a vital part for a hopefully deep playoff push.
Going the other way to the Flames are a trio of players who could use fresh starts and provide Calgary with more depth and grittiness; though needing to take on the fairly pricey contracts of Reaves and Kampf (at $1.4M and $2.4M respectively for their roles) would be the price Calgary needs to pay to dump Kadri.
The main focus for the Flames would be Nick Robertson. The Leafs have struggled to find a spot for the forward after the emergence of Matthew Knies, and a reboot in Calgary could be a confidence boost for a player clearly talented but lacking the room to flourish.
The main caveat would be Kadri's no trade clause, however according to Darren Dreger, the right team could persuade Kadri to waive that.
The Leafs would provide an enticing option where Kadri could be swayed to play a role that would still allow him to score and showcase his offensive ability while also being able to have a slightly lessened workload, which come playoff time can become make or break for a series win.
