In a summer that has slowed down considerably as we await the final tidbits of signings and anxiously hope for a year with a different result, Hockey Patrol has decided to throw out a trade proposal that could cause a massive shakeup for both sides.
The latter acquisition would be a valuable member of the Leafs and add a scoring punch to their Top 6 that could rival the best in the league; and while Ekblad would contribute defensively and put up some points, his injury history could be a big factor. He hasn't played in over 71 games since 2019-2020 and the Leafs have to ask themselves if they can gamble on Ekblad's health especially in a new rough and tumble system.
Florida would in turn get a 22 year old, a 25 year old, two players of similar age to Ekblad and Verhaeghe AND two very high ranking picks. While disposing of the disgruntled Liljegren and Robertson would be beneficial for the moral of the Maple Leafs; getting rid of those pieces for something that has a little less future capital could be risky but if the Leafs are in win now mode: Desperate Times. Desperate Measures.
This trade would undoubtedly shake up the landscape of both teams, however the risks involved may outweigh the rewards. If Brad Treliving truly wants to make a splash, he may have to take a dip in the Everglades.
