Though it may look like the roster has taken shape for the opening of camp in a few weeks, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving spoke openly about his want to add more in the coming weeks.
Though he's given fairly standard responses in regards to free agency and the Maple Leafs' signings, it was on TSN's OverDrive where the GM decided to give more insight into his thought process as the season creeps up.
"We'll continue to bang away to see if there's areas we can add and continue to make the group as good as we possibly can."
While the Maple Leafs added some size and veteran leadership in Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, while simultaneously shoring up their goaltending by adding premier backup Anthony Stolarz; no real big moves or acquisitions occurred. There is still the case of Jani Hakanpaa's contract, which Treliving said he was "working through" that whole ordeal and wouldn't comment further.
Meanwhile, the question of Mitch Marner sticking around past this year, and the Nick Robertson RFA saga has loomed over Treliving's head since summer started, and shows no signs of easing up in the coming weeks. The Maple Leafs could use a couple of depth pieces including another centre, as well as possibly adding another big bodied defenseman in place of disgruntled defenseman Timothy Liljegren.
