Former Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Justin Pogge has found himself behind the bench for 2024-25, this time for Vancouver's AHL affiliate; the Abbotsford Canucks.

Pogge, drafted by the Maple Leafs in the 3rd Round (90th overall) projected to be one of the top goaltenders of the future after a stellar junior career including winning the Four Broncos Award for MVP, as well as CHL Goaltender of the Year and the Del Wilson Award for the best goaltender in the WHL. That year he posted a 38-10-6 record with a 1.72GAA and .926 save percentage to go along with 11 shutouts.
After turning pro with the Marlies, he recorded 19 wins in his first season, then followed it up with back to back 25+ win seasons. He made his NHL debut in December 2008 versus the then-Atlanta Thrashers in a 6-2 win and ended up playing only 7 games for the Maple Leafs; going 1-4-1 with a 4.36 GAA and .844 save percentage. He was traded to Anaheim and bounced around several AHL teams before settling in Europe.
He played in Italy, Sweden, Germany, and Slovakia during his time there, and retired from competition in 2022-2023. He then became a goaltending consultant for the Columbus Blue Jackets last year before receiving the call to work for Abbotsford.
While it didn't pan out for Pogge as a player, he's certainly got talent and hockey IQ and would be a big addition to any coaching staff. Wish you all the best Justin!
