During an interview with the missing curfew podcast, former Maple Leafs legend Doug Gilmour revealed how he knew that he was being traded prior to being moved to Toronto.

Gilmour explained but after he had won his arbitration case, he knew it was inevitable that he was going to be traded as it angered former Calgary General Manager Doug Risebrough. He also told the hosts that he was lying on the floor at 7:00 in the morning and he could hear what Risebrough was saying on the phone stating he was trading Gilmour.
It wasn't long that Gilmour was moved to Toronto in a 10-player deal. That year also had similarities to what's been happening with the Flames lately as numerous star players had left the team back in 1992.
The move paid off in dividends for the Maple Leafs with Cliff Fletcher remodeling his team well adding former Canadiens head coach Pat Burns while putting together a great team that went on and challenged for the Stanley Cup finals two years in a row.
Unfortunately, the Leafs came up short but gave Leaf Nation of the time a wild ride. Gilmour went on to be one of the best Leafs in Maple Leaf history and he is beloved by all fans who still remember him and watched him play for the blue and white. He scored 131 goals and 321 assists in 393 games for the Leafs and won the Selke for best defensive forward in 1992-93.
