Gilmour explained but after he had won his arbitration case, he knew it was inevitable that he was going to be traded as it angered former Calgary General Manager Doug Risebrough. He also told the hosts that he was lying on the floor at 7:00 in the morning and he could hear what Risebrough was saying on the phone stating he was trading Gilmour.
Unfortunately, the Leafs came up short but gave Leaf Nation of the time a wild ride. Gilmour went on to be one of the best Leafs in Maple Leaf history and he is beloved by all fans who still remember him and watched him play for the blue and white. He scored 131 goals and 321 assists in 393 games for the Leafs and won the Selke for best defensive forward in 1992-93.
