During his podcast Leafs Morning Take, former Maple Leaf Jay Rosehill gave his thoughts regarding the Oliver Ekman-Larsson signing.

''He is not going to be the man, the stud, but he's got good hockey in him for sure. Tons of experience. He's got a pedigree that is quality.

It's not 10 years ago and he's not 24 years old, but I think there is a spot for him here where he can do that like 2nd pairing thing very well and just chug along and be solid and be that guy that we're always happy to have there''
If it was 10 years ago we may have gotten the new Thomas Kaberle; but while he is still far removed from his 6 year stretch where he averaged nearly 45 points per year while being the spark plug for the Coyotes offense, especially on the powerplay; he still adds value says Rosehill.
A second pairing lining up with Jake McCabe or even finding top pairing minutes on the PP alongside Morgan Reilly could be not only a boost to the Maple Leafs but to Ekman-Larsson's confidence. He still managed to pour in 32 points for Florida last year including a reasonable 6 points in their Stanley Cup winning run.
If we could see Ekman-Larsson regain just a smidge of his old form, and alongside a modern day McCabe; we may end up in 2005 all over again.
