The ongoing saga of the St. Louis Blues/Edmonton Oilers offer sheet drama has led to one former Maple Leaf being shipped West to sunny California.
As reported earlier, Edmonton was looking to shave some salary by potentially dumping two of their defensemen and one of those names has become a victim of cap crunch.
TSN's NHL Insider Chris Johnston has reported that former Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Ceci has been traded to the San Jose Sharks alongside a third-round pick for Ty Emberson.
Last year, Ceci recorded 5 goals and 20 assists in 79 games for the Oilers and will look to solidify the rebuilding Sharks' back end. Emberson, a 24-year old defenseman is a cheaper, big bodied D that comes at a significantly reduced cost. He recorded 1 goal and 9 assists in 30 games for the Sharks last season, and with some seasoning could be a solid 2nd or 3rd line defenseman.
It's just one of the moves Edmonton is looking to make to secure their two forwards of the future, and surely more cap-saving measures will come in the coming weeks if not days.
