During a recent interview on Leafs morning take, former Maple Leafs assistant coach Dallas Eakins expressed his approval regarding the coaching change the leaps have made with new head coach Craig Berube and associate coach Lane Lambert.
Eakins stated on how Berube will coach this team and how he will demand a certain style from his players and expect nothing but the best. Eakins also mentioned that berube will not take any crap from the media or anyone else as he becomes the new bench boss.
«With Chief coming in, I thought that was a great hire. That is a Stanley Cup-winning coach. There's no BS, no tip-toeing around any issues with Chief - he hits him head-on,» Eakins explained.
Eakins also felt that hiring Lane Lambert who was the former head coach of the New York Islanders was a great hire and will give the Maple Leafs improved leadership and another voice who will give experience to the players and improve their play.
«The other thing that I love that Chief and Brad (Treliving) did there, and I think there should be more of this in the NHL, I've been fairly vocal about this, is I think the more leadership you have on the bench, the better. Hiring Lane Lambert, who's been a head coach in the league, I think that is one hell of a hire. I think it's an incredible hire because of the leadership there.»
This coaching change will certainly give a different look to the Maple Leafs that we have been accustomed to. As former general manager Kyle Dubas felt going with a fresh face with new ideas on how to make the team better, general manager Brad Treliving has decided to go back to the old school style of coaching which has produced wins and a Stanley Cup during Berube's career behind the bench.
Only time will tell if this decision was right and if he can make a difference along with Lambert and the rest of their coaching staff.
