Being a thorn in the side of Maple Leafs teams and fans for years, former Canadiens captain and current unrestricted free agent Max Pacioretty is currently weighing his options for this upcoming season and Toronto should throw their name into the mix.
While Seravelli believes that Pacioretty has already narrows his picks down to a few select teams, it would behoove the Leafs to just throw out an offer, even if it's rejected. Showing some tenacity and trying to find these depth pieces is crucial to a successful playoff run. The Maple Leafs currently have about $1.275M in cap space to play with and for Pacioretty coming off a down year, he could sacrifice a bit of money for a chance to prove he can still hang.
He registered 4 goals and 19 assists in only 47 games but has been a 30-goal scorer six times in his career, most recently for Vegas in 2019-2020. Since being drafted 22nd overall by Montreal in 2007, Pacioretty has recorded 330 and 338 assists in 902 games for the Canadiens, Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.
Pacioretty would be a welcome addition to a Maple Leafs team looking to add that veteran presence as they look towards winning their first Stanley Cup since 1967, and considering he's scored 31 points against Toronto in his career; maybe it's time the Maple Leafs took a chance on 'Patches.'
