Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan could find himself in the big leagues sooner rather than later.
As training camp creeps up on us, for both NHL and junior hockey squads, it begins an exciting time for hockey fans and players alike as it means the season opener draws nearer and nearer. After a breakout season in the OHL, Easton Cowan looks to have be genuinely fighting for a roster spot come October; according to a recent article.
Jared Brown of The Hockey News reported that Cowan looks to have his mindset fully on making the team out of camp, or at the very least sooner than later:
"Easton Cowan, Ruslan Gazizov, and Kasper Halttunen will join the team after NHL camps, but watch for Cowan and Halttunen as two players who are going to push to make the jump to the NHL this year," Brown said.
Cowan could make a push with a strong camp to fill in as the depth piece needed for the Leafs, something he has every intention of doing:
"I want to make the team," said the 19-year-old forward, selected by the Maple Leafs with the No. 28 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. "That's always been my goal," Cowan said in an interview with NHL.com in late July.
