After blocking a shot on a penalty kill, Peeke left Game 2 and did not return. Peeke blocked the shot with his hand, which means he could be in for a long absence, similar to Calle Jarnkrok after he broke a knuckle blocking a shot in practice earlier this season and missed a month of action.
The Bruins have also recalled Parker Wotherspoon and Mason Lohrei, according to Bruins reporter Fluto Shinzawa. Many may recall that Wotherspoon was destroyed by Tyler Bertuzzi during a fight in the regular season.
The Bruins made it a point to have Hampus Lindholm and Brandon Carlo face Auston Matthews whenever possible, and it worked well in Game 1. In Game 2, however, Matthews broke out for 3 points after the injury to Peeke forced the Bruins to continuously rotate the remaining 5 defensemen.
Peeke didn't see a lot of Auston Matthews in Games 1 and 2, but with the Leafs controlling the matchups for Games 3 and 4, it's likely that Sheldon Keefe would have looked to exploit the marchups using his the last line change to get Matthews out there against the 2nd and 3rd pairings. Now that Peeke is sidelined, the matchups may become even more favourable.
