Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid share the ice together in latest social media post

While there's no question that Connor McDavid is the unequivocal #1 player in the entire league, the greatest goal scorer in the league right now is none other than Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews. Imagine if McDavid's playmaking and vision were coupled with MAtthews' blistering shot.

Well imagine no more.

While it's not the dynamic duo that either Oilers or Maple Leafs fans hope for, the fact the two top players in the league are picking each other's brains for wisdom and advice should only excite fans of both teams.

McDavid is coming off a season where he posted 132 points, led Edmonton to the Stanley Cup Finals and won the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP even though he was on the losing end. Matthews registered 69 goals; the most since Mario Lemieux in 1995-96 and also put together a season where he is the only player to score 60+ goals and block 90+ shots.

Although McDavid and Matthews could only team up in a scrimmage or practice scenario; or if either Edmonton or Toronto found a genie granting wishes, it gives a glimpse into the mutual respect and relationship these two have.
