The accolades keep on coming for Auston Matthews, and his torrid goal scoring pace has led him amongst players who don the Stars and Stripes.
As per Big Head Hockey on X; Matthews has slid into 5th on a list of most goals from an American over the last two decades; accomplishing the feat only 8 years since he debuted in the NHL.
As you can see, he ranks up there with some phenomenal American players such as the recently retired Joe Pavelski and Maple Leafs legend and hot dog connoisseur Phil Kessel; not too shabby for someone only 26 years of age.
Matthews has been nothing short of magical in his tenure with the Leafs; averaging 46 goals over his 8 seasons with Toronto and is on a scoring pace better than Wayne Gretzky.
While he still double his current goal total away from the greatest American scorer Brett Hull (who is only half American but that's another argument) there is no doubt that Matthews will match the likes of Pavelski, Keith Tkachuk and Mike Modano, and if he keeps up this pace we could be looking at The Golden Auston instead.
