Alex Nylander's former coach, J.D. Forrest, heaped praise on the younger Nylander, speaking about his time with Scranton Wilkes-Barre. In an interview with Toronto Sun's Lance Hornby, Forrest had nothing but positive things to say about Nylander during his tenure.

"J.D. Forrest, who coached Pittsburgh's farm team at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, described Alex to the local Tribune-Review as having 'loads of talent, offensively gifted (but) just kind of needs to round out his game. He can certainly do some things not everyone can."'

While there is no doubt that Nylander has the talent to have success offensively at the NHL level, his complete game needs some retooling and Leafs faithful are hopeful their beloved Marlies are the answer to unlocking the full potential of Nylander.
Hornby was a bit taken aback by the Blue Jackets' unwillingness to offer Nylander a deal, especially after a solid finish to the year including the fastest hat-trick in Blue Jackets history. He writes:
"Many were shocked Alex didn't get a qualifying offer from new Jackets' general manager Don Waddell after his strong spring, three multi-goal games, including a hat trick, the fastest in club history."

Hornby also believes that Nylander will be able to learn sooner rather than later as he looks to be working with the veterans in camp, and trying to absorb as much as he can before pre-season starts.
"Alex will likely be practising with the Leafs veteran and prospects in Toronto in the coming weeks."

If Nylander can take what he has learnt and translate it into a strong first half of the AHL season, he may be in line for a call-up sooner rather than later.
