During last night's game in New York, Timothy Liljegren left the game during the second period and did not return for the third. The obvious concern here is that the Leafs' blueline is already banged up enough and does not need another injury at the moment.
Sheldon Keefe revealed after last night's game that Liljegren had suffered an upper-body injury and would be re-evaluated on Friday. So, we can expect an official update perhaps tonight or at some point before Saturday's game in Washington.
During the Leafs' post-game media availability, Sportsnet's Luke Fox provided an update on the 23-year-old, as he saw Liljegren leaving the room with a wrapped hand. Liljegren has been arguably the Leafs' best blueliner during their stretch without the likes of Muzzin, Rielly and Brodie.
The obvious hope here is that the tests on his hand come back negative and he ends up with a day-to-day designation or is cleared to return rather than spending any length of time on the sidelines. Liljegren was already sidelined to start the season after undergoing sports hernia surgery in the offseason.
