It is nice to see the NHL's Department of Player Safety step in and hold their players accountable for dangerous plays - this after last night's Leafs/Bolts game when Mikhail Sergachev took an uncalled-for slash at Michael Bunting's hands as he skated through the middle of the ice. Even with two officials staring up at the play through the neutral zone, the play went uncalled in the game.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety handed out a $5000 fine to Sergachev of today. While this is minimal compared to the salaries these players make - it is nice to see some accountability from the league when they are trying to deter these types of plays where there is intent to injure.
Bunting was fine and did remain in the game, so whatever damage that was done was purely in the moment and didn't hinder Bunting the rest of the way. Still, there was no reason for it and it's nice to know that the league is watching for plays like this.
