After the Leafs defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in a matinee matchup Thursday, a trio of forwards are now on pace to accomplish a feat yet to be achieved in franchise history. In the organization's 105-year-old span, never once has a Leafs team had three players score 90-plus points in the same season.
In the team's rich history and an abundance of spectacular players that have come through, surprisingly, no group of three players has ever scored 90-plus points in a season in a Maple Leafs uniform. The closest came in the 1989-90 season, where forwards Gary Leeman scored 95, Vincent Damphousse finished with 94, and Ed Olczyk was just shy of the 90-point mark with 88.
With Nylander's team-leading 20th goal of the season on Thursday, Marner's two-point afternoon, and Matthews' helper in today's game, these three are all on pace for 90-plus point seasons. The trio currently lead the team in points, as Marner has 40, Matthews and Nylander have 39, with the next closest being John Tavares with 31.
